I admit I would have had a hard time being a soldier in the army of Israel when Joshua led them into Canaan.   I wouldn’t have problems with everything, though there are times when my faith certainly would have waivered.  I would have been cheering as the Jordan river parted. I would have been excited as we set up camp and prepared for war.  I would have been sharpening my sword, polishing my shield, and preparing my armor when Joshua went to take counsel from the Lord.  I would have been ready to fight and finally take the land we had been waiting 40 years to receive from God.  When Joshua gave marching orders, however, and those orders ONLY included marching, I would have had a serious problem.

I’m a man of action!  A soldier!  I’m a warrior in the army of the Lord, and you want me to march around a city?  Gimme a break!  Joshua surely must have made a mistake!

I could have waited and marched for a couple of days, but for six whole days?  Then on the seventh I’m supposed to march around seven times and then yell?  How can a soldier expect to win a war fighting like that?

Honestly, soldiers don’t win wars that way, but God does.  When Israel trusted in God and obeyed his commands, God won the victory in God’s own way. 

Every day we face our own walls of doubt.  We question God’s wisdom in governing our everyday lives when we can’t see the reasons behind his commandments.    Yet, just like the fighting men of Israel, if we will just listen to what God has said and place our trust in his ability and his wisdom, then we will be victorious through the strength and power of our God.  His commandments are for our good always—we just need to tear down our walls of doubt so we can receive the good from God (Deut. 6.24).
